We were all listening to the Kingston Trio and Peter, Paul and Mary sing Pete Seegar songs in 1962 and 1963. Dylan didn't go electric until 1965; the Beatles' Rubber Soul was released in '65; the Doors' first LP didn't appear until '67; the so-called Summer of Love was in '67. To my mind, the '60s should have been called "the last half of the '60s."rowrbazzlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10251548473424843855noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3355227236397241799.post-31611044961786171172011-09-18T05:07:51.413+01:002011-09-18T05:07:51.413+01:00That last point really gets at something, hits it ...That last point really gets at something, hits it on its head. I think in many ways it's the some of the ugliest music ever recorded - they seem to deliberately avoid any repetitive element, such as a melody or rhythm, that might give the listener any pleasure. If they remind me of anyone it's the painter Philip Guston, whose later work seems to be an exercise in a kind of jarring banality - cliched metaphors painted in queasy colours.

And that's another thing that I find odd about The Residents - their output seems to be the work of a single intelligence, and yet they present themselves as a group. I really find it difficult to believe that more than one person could have their particularly bizarre vision, let alone that they should manage to find each other etc.Phil Knighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16214245608032305452noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3355227236397241799.post-34077025374473248572011-09-17T16:43:08.303+01:002011-09-17T16:43:08.303+01:00Right.
